General Info

Event Overview

The 2026 SJJIF World Cup is the first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu mixed team event where male and female competitors compete against their respective gender to take home the World Cup and World Cup Team Title. Competitors will represent their nation as part of an official National Federation team.

Event Vision

• Elevate Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to a national-team competition format

• Strengthen the authority of National and Continental Federations

• Promote gender equality and international unity

• Showcase elite Black Belt athletes on the world stage

Team Composition

Teams may register a minimum of 4 and up to 8 official competitors, with optional reserves.

Minimum requirements:

• 2 Male competitors

• 2 Female competitors

Weight divisions:

• Male Under 76kg

• Male Over 76.1kg

• Female Under 68kg

• Female Over 68.1kg

Athlete Eligibility

All athletes must be Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belts and must:

• Be top ranked in their nation, OR

• Win official national tryouts, OR

• Be invited by their National Federation due to outstanding achievements.

All competitors must hold a valid passport of the nation they represent.

Competition Format

Each round is decided by Best of 3 matches.

If a team wins the first two matches, the third match is not contested.

Gi or No-Gi, Male or Female, Light or Heavy weight selection is determined by the official SJJIF Eight-sided dice roll:

Once the dice is rolled the following matches will follow in the following match sequence:

Female Light Gi

Male Light No-Gi

Female Heavy No-Gi

Male Heavy Gi

Female Light No-Gi

Male Light Gi

Female Heavy Gi

Male Heavy No-Gi

Example: If the dice rolled landed on Male Light Gi the first match would be Male Light Gi followed by Female Heavy Gi and Male Heavy No-Gi

Federation Commitment

Registration represents a formal commitment that the federation will bring:

• A complete team (minimum 4 athletes)

• Elite-level competitors

• Athletes capable of competing safely at the highest level

Failure to meet minimum requirements results in forfeiture.

Exemption: In the case where a national team is not able to cover the number of required participants due to not having a competitor qualified to compete from their nation the federation may register with a lower number of participants. The federation will automatically lose that one match.

Example: Team USA has a 4 member team consisting of 2 male and 2 females while Team Mauritius has a 2 member team consisting of 2 males only as the country currently does not have any female black belt practitioners.  Team Mauritius may participate, but will automatically lose one female match.  Both male competitors from Team Mauritius must win their matches in order to advance in the bracket.

Team Uniform

The goal of the event is to be exciting and to give the freedom to the national federations to create their team uniform any color or design as long as it respects the sizing chart.
